You’ve made the decision to start juicing. Good for you! Whether you are juicing for health benefits, or to lose weight, or both, you have made the right choice. Now, you need to get started. That can be the most intimidating part, where exactly do you start?
First, you will need to make sure that you have a juicer or a blender. Both will work, although a juicer will give you more options and is easier to use when juicing. You can use a blender, but you will be limited in what you can actually make. Plus, you have to stain out the pulp and peel, something that a good juicer will do for you. That said, once you have your equipment, it’s time to find some recipes.
Which Juice Recipes Are Right For You?
Like anything else to do with food, you will be driven by what you like and what you are trying to achieve. If you don’t like ginger, it makes no sense at all to be using it in your juice. Strong tasting foods will need to have sweeter or milder tasting ingredients added, you want to enjoy your juice. If your goal is weight loss, you want to make sure that you aren’t adding extra sugars or unwanted calories. Don’t worry, there are lots of options and plenty of resources to help you find a wide variety of juices that you will enjoy.
Green Goddess Juice
This delicious juice has nothing to do with Green Goddess salad dressing! Instead, this is a wonderful cucumber, apple, pear and celery combination that is high in antioxidants and fiber. The apple gives the juice a wonderful sweetness and you will find this a great juice for those really hot days.
Green Goddess Juice:
3 stalks of celery 1/2 large cucumber, cut into quarters 1 medium green apple, cut into eighths 1 medium pear, cut into eighths
Chop up all of the ingredients, juice well with your juicer or blender.
Ginger Zinger Juice
Zing! Sweet and zippy, this is a really simple and really delicious juice to try. Ginger can add some heat to any dish, but the sweetness carrots and apples balance it nicely. You can add or remove that amount of ginger depending on your preference.
Ginger Zinger Juice:
2 medium apples, cut into eighths 5 carrots (no need to peel) 1/2 inch fresh ginger 1/4 lemon (remove peel to avoid bitterness)
Chop up the apples, carrots and lemon. Grate the ginger and add everything to your blender or juicer.
Tropic-Kale Juice
Kale is the new super food and here is a really good tasting juice that has the benefit of kale. Kale is high in antioxidants and is loaded with vitamins and minerals. The bananas add a smoothie type texture to this drink.
Tropi-Kale Juice:
1/4 of a fresh pineapple, skin and core removed, and cut into 1” strips 4 kale leaves 1 ripe banana, peeled
Some juices may have problems with kale leaves. You will be best served if you are able to chop them finely before blending or juicing.
